Vintage Portuguese Handwoven Rooster Decorative Tea Towel

$50.00

A beautifully handwoven Portuguese textile featuring one of the country's most recognizable folk motifs—the colorful rooster. Richly textured weaving in red, black and yellow gives this decorative tea towel wonderful character and dimension.

The natural cream ground is woven with horizontal bands incorporating stylized roosters, red hearts, fine stripes and rows of tiny raised dots. Rather than applied embroidery, the colorful motifs are created as part of the woven construction, giving the textile a distinctly handcrafted appearance. Soft fringe finishes both ends.

Traditionally suited to decorative kitchen use, its generous 30-inch length also makes it beautiful displayed over an oven handle, hung as textile decor or styled across a small table as a runner.

The rooster is deeply associated with Portuguese folk culture and remains a popular motif in Portuguese kitchen textiles today. Luisa Paixao
